![]() In The Data Detective, he uses new research in science and psychology to set out ten strategies for using statistics to erase our biases and replace them with new ideas that use virtues like patience, curiosity, and good sense to better understand ourselves and the world. ![]() We shouldn’t be suspicious of statistics-we need to understand what they mean and how they can improve our lives: they are, at heart, human behavior seen through the prism of numbers and are often “the only way of grasping much of what is going on around us.” If we can toss aside our fears and learn to approach them clearly-understanding how our own preconceptions lead us astray-statistics can point to ways we can live better and work smarter.Īs “perhaps the best popular economics writer in the world” (New Statesman), Tim Harford is an expert at taking complicated ideas and untangling them for millions of readers. That’s a mistake, Tim Harford says in The Data Detective. Today we think statistics are the enemy, numbers used to mislead and confuse us. ![]() From “one of the great (greatest?) contemporary popular writers on economics” (Tyler Cowen) comes a smart, lively, and encouraging rethinking of how to use statistics. ![]()

![]() In retrospect it feels more like, well, she cares about him, he's not bad-looking, and he's clearly into it, so why not try this on for size? But it winds up coming across to me like she loves him as a close friend she's also somewhat attracted to - she cares a whole lot about his well-being, but it doesn't feel to me like she has much investment at all in the two of them as a couple. I think she clearly loves him, and she's also down for sex with him, and he's absolutely in love with her. ![]() I'll throw out there because it's one I've been thinking about: what do you all think of El and Orion's relationship in the end? Looking back, I'm not sure she really comes across as in love with him at all. ![]() I'm excited that this thread is up! Hopefully we'll get some good discussions. ![]() ![]() ![]() Since then Abby has become a true professional private investigator in Austin, partnered in a practice with her best friend Candice Fusco and taking on clients that include the FBI. ![]() Fourteen books ago Abby had a small psychic reading practice and was a self-declared P.I., as in Psychic Intuitive. In secret, Noor applied to seven colleges, daring to hope that she might finally be able to get away. But he’s determined that Noor will stay and look over the liquor store after she graduates, rather than go to college. Noor has her uncle, who saved her when an earthquake killed the rest of her family as a child. Sure, Salahudin has his parents, but his mother is very sick and his father is always passed out drunk on the couch, so they’re no help. Unfortunately, they’re all each other has. ![]() ![]() Not since the Fight, which continues to hang over both of their heads, even when they try to ignore it. They both rebel somewhat against their aristocratic upbringing, partly spurred on by their neighbour Lord Merlin, who is played by the “sexy priest” from Fleabag, Andrew Scott. ![]() Fanny is educated while Linda isn’t, but Linda is very headstrong because the family, specifically Uncle Matthew (Dominic West), despises educated women and is also a notorious xenophobe. The film is set mostly around the pre-Second World War period, and it’s about the friendship between cousins Linda Radlet (Linda Radlett) and Fanny Logan (Emily Beecham) as they navigate their way through their youth. Nancy and Jessica are the clear basis for the two cousins in The Pursuit of Love. ![]() Jessica’s side was decorated with hammers and sickles and pictures of Lenin, while Unity’s was decorated with swastikas and pictures of Adolf Hitler. Amusingly, Unity and another sister, Jessica (there were six sisters in total), shared a bedroom. My friend Scott Bradley has been working on a script on Unity’s short, sad and pathetic life for a while. Nancy was one of the “good” Mitfords: she was a ‘’small s’’ socialist, unlike two of her sisters Unity and Diane, who were notorious fascists. ![]() The Pursuit of Love is a three-part mini-series co-produced by BBC/Amazon Prime and based on Nancy Mitford’s semi-autobiograpical novel, which was the first in a trilogy. ![]() ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() I would rate this book with four stars because there were important characters that died. This is my favorite part because without the Elites saving her, the story would not go on. My favorite part of the story is how the Young Elites save Adelina from the inquisitor. My favorite character in this story is Raffaele. During her training she experiences happy, sad, thrilling memories making her very special. The Young Elites try to train her and make Adelina one of them. Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all. During her teen years she leaves her family and joins The Young Elites. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. ![]() In the book The Young Elites the main character, Adelina, achieves mythical powers after being infected by a deadly disease, that leaves her with a cursed scar on her left eye. It was very exciting and full of emotion. ![]() She slowly grows darker and that’s what I find unique. I particularly liked the character Adelina. This is one of those books I couldn’t put down. The descriptions in scenery, character, etc. The characters were well developed and made the plot line is different from other books. This book, The Young Elites, was very interesting. ![]() ![]() ![]() Your go-to guide for building and maintaining champion level teams and then leading your team to the peak level of success regardless of the field you’re in.
